It's sad to say but I probably only bought 9 albums in 2009... and some of them were flops.
Here's a hand full of goodin's if you're sittin' around in April (2010) looking back to 2009 and wondering what a guy who still buy cd's thought was worth sending his hard earned $ on.

• Aesop Rock - None shall Pass
best rapper alive (for real) and this album sounds very california if that makes sense
• Andrew Bird - Noble Beast / Useless Creatures
this guy plays every stringer instrument & whistles like nobodies business. Seriously like a songbird.
I've seen him twice, he records and loops riffs played live and layers them up into something amazing.
• Animal Collective - Merriweather Post Pavilion & Fall be Kind EP
I know this is mind control music but I love it! Certainly not for causal listening, but it satisfies my thirst
      for experimental music.
• The Decemberists - Hazards of Love
I know right? But it is a pretty damn good album and I love the Rake song.
• Lord Newborn & the Magic Skulls - self titled
ABSOLUTELY a must buy. It's mostly instrumental pieces but it is funky. It will make you dance.
• Regina Spektor - Far
I'm a sucker for her and her whimsical song writing . She's like a cute Russian Billy Joel.
• Tanya Morgan - Brooklynati
A pretty good Indie-hop group. But I only really like the first half of the album. And if you don't like hip-
hop forget about it they're not for you.

To sum it up I highly recommend Lord Newborn, Animal Collective and Aesop Rock. As a side note the videos for Animal Collective's "Summertime Clothes" and Aesop Rock's "Coffee" are great.

To make sure I retain some independence, I'm going to do a best of the decade list. And not just music. I'll accept your conclusions on this list, mostly because Teflon gives me an erection. However, I'll note that you were a genre-nazi. In the words of Hot Rod, "Why don't you try to open that mind of yours?"
